James Maddison returned from injury with a brief cameo against Manchester City in the FA Cup last weekend, and Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has now revealed how the midfielder is doing ahead of the clash with Brentford tomorrow night.
Since joining Spurs from Leicester City in the summer, James Maddison very quickly established himself as the new golden boy at the club. Taking on the iconic number 10 shirt, the vice-captain role, and delivering key contributions in big moments, Maddison is a player the Lilywhites cannot do without.
After registering three goals and six assists in his first 12 games this season (Transfermarkt), Maddison was cruelly sidelined for just under three months with an ankle injury picked up in Spurs‘ defeat to Chelsea at the start of November.
Maddison made his big comeback last week, taking part in training once more and then making the bench for the FA Cup tie with Manchester City. A 17-minute appearance as a substitute was not enough to allow Maddison to change the game, but his return was a welcome sight for Spurs fans.
Looking ahead to tomorrow’s Premier League game against Brentford, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou was asked how Maddison is doing and whether he is likely to play from the start.
He told Charlie Eccleshare: “He was ok, he was fine. Probably could have got him a bit more game time [against City] but the way things were going I put him on later probably than he’d have wanted.
“He’s trained well, he’s ready to go. We’ll see [about starting against Brentford]. We have three games in a week, so there’ll definitely be changes.”

I reckon Maddison will be chomping at the bit to start tomorrow, and the thought of him playing alongside Bentancur is just too exciting. Hopefully, he starts, and we can get the game under control early doors so he doesn’t have to play a full game.
