My aunt is 71 with flawless skin – she skips a morning step most women swear by and her favorite brand is $18 on Amazon
A BEAUTY guru sat down with her age-defying aunt to find out how she maintains a flawless appearance at 71.
She was surprised when her aunt revealed her skincare routine involves skipping a step that most women swear by.
Brittany Allyn (@thirtywaves) has garnered over 352,000 followers on TikTok, where she shares anti-aging tips.
The 36-year-old said she learned about beauty from her aunt Pamela, who has had the same skincare routine for 40 years.
“Let’s go through your quick daily skincare AM and PM,” Brittany said to her aunt.
“I wake up in the morning and I splash warm water on my face, grab a towel, and dab,” Pamela said.
The step may come as a surprise as many women religiously wash their face in the morning to remove the build-up of oil and dirt caused by the skin coming into contact with pillowcases and duvets.
“No washing face in the morning, just at night,” Brittany reiterated.
“It keeps your natural oils, oils are important for anti-aging and wrinkle prevention.”
“I immediately put on lotion with retinol,” Pamela continued.
“I’ve been doing this for maybe 40 years, I put it on my forehead, I do my cheeks, around my mouth, under my eyes, I do my neck and decolletage.
“You know what, I might do it again if it doesn’t feel hydrated enough.
“I do that in the morning and then at night when I wash my face.”
Brittany said it’s never too late to start an anti-aging skincare routine.
Her aunt revealed she doesn’t use separate SPF products to prevent aging related to sun exposure because her makeup already has it in it.
However, the duo advised using extra retinol around the lips as it’s the “most wrinkle-prone spot” on the face.
“At first if you use retinol it might seem a little harsh for your skin but it takes a week or two for your skin to get used to it,” Pamela said.
“She’s not using tretinoin or a Retin-A,” Brittany said.
“She’s using a retinol, not a retin-A, it’s a little bit less harsh and it’s still worked miracles for her.”
According to Harvard Medical School, Tretinoin, under the brand name Retin-A, was the first retinoid.
It was initially used as an acne treatment but researchers later discovered that it can be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Retinol isn’t as strong or effective, but causes less irritation and can improve the appearance of photo-aged skin.
Pamela revealed her favorite brand of retinol is easily available to buy.
“I just use Roc, my God I can get it on Amazon or at the drugstore,” she said.
“I don’t like the daytime one because I find it’s very greasy. I always use one of the night ones.”
The video racked up over 17,000 likes and hundreds of people took to the comment section complimenting Pamela’s ageless appearance.
“She doesn’t look a day over 50,” one person wrote. “OMG she looks like your sister,” another said.
“Wow, I thought she was in her 40s,” a third chimed in.
“I started using night-time Roc and seems to be working, now I know for sure that I will stick with it,” another added.
