CNN's Oliver Darcy reported on Tuesday morning detailed a new conspiracy theory being pushed by many Trump supporters about NFL star Travis Kelce and pop singer Taylor Swift being agents of "shadow forces" that secretly control the world.
This conspiracy theory, which was outlined over the weekend by failed GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, posits that the NFL rigged the AFC Championship Game for the Kansas City Chiefs so that Swift could travel to the Super Bowl and make a high-profile endorsement of President Joe Biden in front of a mass television audience.
"Of course, this is absurd," Darcy said of the theory. "There are a lot of people, a not-so-insignificant amount of people, who end up believing these ideas. Remember the QAnon conspiracy, which was equally as absurd if not more, people ended up believing that because they are locked in this media universe which feeds them information that supports it."

Darcy then explained that conservatives have been angry at Kelce for months after he appeared in a Pfizer promotional video that encouraged Americans to get vaccinated against COVID-19, which is what sparked them to believe he was working on behalf of the purported globalist deep state.
"Now there's this idea that not only is Taylor Swift controlled by shadow forces, [Kelce] is part of the campaign for COVID shots," Darcy explained. "So the idea is not only Taylor Swift is under the control of the sinister forces in the shadows, but also Kelce is wielded by them to get people to do the smart thing and get a COVID vaccine."
