I’ve made my own chapstick for years – it’s super simple using five ingredients, I make a dozen tubes in one go
SICK of the addicting chemicals in mass-produced chapstick, one DIYer has revealed her tips for creating your lip balm.
The pro makes a dozen tubes of moisturizer in one shot.
TikToker Katie Krejci (@thehomesteadingRD) is a registered dietician who is passionate about real foods and real ingredients.
In one video, Katie explained why you should make your own chapstick at home.
“Have you noticed that the more you use chapstick, the more addicted to it you become?” she asked.
“That’s because most chapsticks that you buy at the store are LOADED with inflammatory and irritating ingredients,” Katie wrote.
“Instead of soothing and healing your lips, they’re just making things worse,” she continued.
“I started to make my own chapstick many years ago and I’ll never go back! Plus it saves SO much money,” Katie finished.
To make the product, you need two tablespoons of beeswax, two tablespoons of shea butter, two tablespoons of coconut oil, and a quarter of a teaspoon of oil.
You can also add five drops of your favorite essential oil.
To combine everything, Katie boils water in a pot and adds a double boiler.
Slowly melt beeswax, and then add the coconut oil and shea butter until it melts.
Once it’s combined into a liquid, add the essential oils.
The next step is to pour the mixture into the tubes. As a tip, Katie uses a double boiler that has a spout.
Let the chapsticks cool, and then cover them with lids.
