A professional makeup artist has shared her “brush loading” tip that will complement your face shape.
In her video, Rebecca Joy Burton (@rebeccajoyburton) talked her followers through the best way to apply contour.
The TikToker broke down the roles that contour and highlighter play for your complexion.
“I want to talk to you about contouring and highlighting today so let’s look at makeup as a whole,” she explained.
“Makeup essentially is the art of shading and highlighting, highlights bring things forward, shadows bring things back.”
Rebecca showed her audience a “typical contour kit,” pointing out the shades as she discussed them.
She also addressed using contour on various face shapes as you get older.
“So when you’re in your 20s you can get away with doing lots, you can take the color really low,” Rebecca told her viewers.
“As you get older, you’re unable to do that, if we take the color and the contour too low it can age us.”
The beauty pro explained that our faces change shape throughout our lives.
“When we’re young, we have an inverted triangle so we look more youthful,” she said.
“As we get older it turns into a normal triangle so everything starts to come down.”
Rebecca used her hands to demonstrate the difference in triangles from one age group to another.
“So keeping that in mind and where you’re at, let’s talk about some different ways to shape the face,” she said.
“If we take our contour color today, I’m just going to use my blush brush from the Everyday Women makeup kit and I’m going to load up both sides of the brush.”
Rebecca demonstrated the technique for her followers as she warned them not to “go in harshly” with the product.
