Woman shares genius hack for getting rid of mould in the bathroom that’s ‘better than bleach’

Posting in the Mrs Hinch cleaning tips Facebook page, one social media user asked: “I was hoping for some advice on how to remove the black mould from around my shower trim?
“I have tried mould and mildew remover but it has not helped.
“Im keen not to damage the seal as it’s a nice shower but I’ve got no idea how to get rid of the mould as it seems it’s part of the clear trim.”
The Facebook post was flooded with helpful replies to the user’s conundrum.
One user shared a suggestion, which they stated works better than bleach.
They said: “I make up a solution of citric acid (40g citric acid to 60g water) and spray the shower all over; glass doors, seals etc.
“Leave it for as long as possible, over night or longer.
“Then rinse it off before showering.
“Citric acid is the only thing I know that actually kills mould spores, even bleach does not do this.
“It may also help get rid of mould stains over time if you use a stiff brush on grouting.
“The seals can be replaced if necessary.”
Black mould is a fungus that grows in warm, wet conditions such as in the bathroom.
Mould can build up for a number of reasons, such as leaking pipes, poor insulation or if condensation is not wiped away after you’ve had a shower.
