Report: PL rivals ‘eye up’ a loan move for Spurs midfielder
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has emerged as a surprising target for Newcastle United this month, with the Magpies eyeing up a loan deal for the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder.
Despite being a first team regular for the last few years under both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has slipped down the pecking order at Tottenham under his new manager, Ange Postecoglou.
He has made 22 appearances in all competitions for Spurs this season, but has averaged just over 41 minutes per game (Transfermarkt). That’s far less than Hojbjerg is accustomed to, and with this in mind, it is thought the player has been told he is free to find a new club (Football Insider).
A number of teams have been linked with the Danish midfielder, most prominently Italian sides Napoli and Juventus (Kick).
It is thought Spurs would prefer to sell Hojbjerg, with a £20m price tag on his head (talkSPORT). However, Jack Pitt-Brooke told The Last Word on Spurs podcast that the 28-year-old may be retained to provide cover in the squad.

Now, according to a report from the Chronicle (via the Daily Mail), Newcastle United could be keen to offer Hojbjerg a way out of North London, with the Premier League side interested in negotiating a loan deal for the Spurs man.
The report claims Hojbjerg is “being monitored” by the North East outfit, who are keen to “bolster their midfield” before the month is over. Hojbjerg is regarded as an option as a “short-term fix” for Newcastle as they continue to tiptoe Financial Fair Play rules.
A deal for Hojbjerg is now believed to be “bubbling under the surface” ahead of the January transfer deadline.

I cannot see us lending Newcastle anyone, not least of all a player who it has been made pretty clear is either for sale or will be staying at the club. Loaning him out would not give us the opportunity to sign a new midfielder, so we would simply be reducing our own squad depth with very little gain.
