Act of Kindness by ALC’s Men’s Basketball Team Leaves Lasting Impression in Terre Haute
Over the weekend, the Alice Lloyd College men’s basketball team traveled to Terre Haute, Indiana, to compete in conference play. Yet, the story from the weekend wasn’t about the basketball game but rather a simple act of kindness.
The story unfolds as a community member, who recently underwent knee replacement surgery, was approaching a restaurant’s main doors with the aid of a cane. Following closely behind was an elderly couple, eager to enjoy their evening meal. What transpired next was nothing short of heartwarming.
As the doors swung open, the basketball players immediately noticed the approaching trio. Without hesitation, they sprang into action, holding the doors wide open to ensure a smooth entry. Not stopping there, the players created a clear path for the individual with the cane and offered assistance to the elderly couple who was following behind.
The individual who experienced this act of goodwill felt compelled to express her gratitude, stating in an email to Coach Scott Cornett, “I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to them for their kindness and to let you know what a wonderful group of young gentlemen you have.”
This group of young men has not only excelled on the court but has also demonstrated qualities of respect, consideration, and community spirit off the court. Such actions go beyond the realm of sportsmanship, as these student-athletes strive to live out The Purpose Road Philosophy through service to those around them.
