‘For me to say yes…’ - Rio Ferdinand believes Ten Hag will only remain at Man United next year on one condition

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been under pressure all season following some runs of woeful results, but it is widely believed he will not be getting sacked at the moment with Sir Jim Ratcliffe yet to be ratified by the Premier League as a co-owner of the Old Trafford club.

The Red Devils have won just one of their last six league games and have already been dumped out of the Carabao Cup and Champions League.

Ten Hag impressed in his first year at Man United last term but is struggling to get the players performing this term, and Rio Ferdinand believes he needs an upturn in fortunes on the pitch to keep his job going forward.

He was asked on The Obi One Podcast whether the Dutchman would still be Man United’s boss this time next season, and he thought long and hard before answering.

“Oooh!,” Ferdinand responded.

“He needs to have a massive upturn in, foremost, in the results for me to say yes, no doubt.”

It is as simple as that as Ratcliffe and his team already have plans for potential replacements in the dugout.

The OGC Nice owner wants Man United to become a force to reckon with in England and Europe again, and he would not hesitate to cut his losses with Ten Hag if the team fail to hit the ground running and the results do not improve next season.

Ratcliffe is expected to give the former Ajax boss a chance to remain in charge until the end of the current campaign and then make the necessary squad changes in the summer transfer window.

Failure to see changes afterwards could force the British billionaire to act, and Ten Hag needs to start getting his tactics and selection right.

While most of the Man United players have been largely underwhelming and disappointing this term, he has been culpable for some of their woeful results.

The Red Devils do not have a distinct playing style under Ten Hag, which is something unexcusable given their status as one of the biggest clubs on the planet.

The Dutchman has what it takes to take Man United to the next level, but he needs to start showing that he can do so sooner rather than later.
