Sania Mirza takes ‘Khula’ from Shoaib Malik

The latest development of Sania Mirza’s divorce with former Pakistani cricket captain Shoaib Malik has garnered media attention. Mirza is an Indian tennis player. The information was made public following Shoaib Malik’s marriage to well-known Pakistani actress Sana Javed.

Formerly regarded as a power couple in the sports industry, Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza got married in Hyderabad, India, in April 2010. Izaan, the couple’s five-year-old kid, is the reason they lived in Dubai up until this point. It is known that the son resides with her mother.

What is “Khula” ?

Sania Mirza’s father, Imran, publicly acknowledged the split, claiming that it had happened through the “khula” procedure—a Muslim woman’s legal right to unilaterally file for divorce from her husband—as per Sharia law. Imran Mirza told it like it was, “It was a khula,” the Republic said.

After an incredible 20-year career, Sania, who is regarded as one of India’s best tennis pros, announced her retirement last year. She is regarded as a trailblazer for women in sports, having won 43 WTA Doubles titles and one solo trophy.

Mirza’s cryptic post on Instagram

Two days prior to to the confirmation, Sania came up with a cryptic post that was followed by the news of the divorce. The passage from her Instagram story that said, “Divorce is hard,” offered a peek into the many emotional difficulties she had been going through.

Pick wisely (sic),” reads the quote that Sania shared on her Instagram stories. 

“When something disturbs the peace of your heart, let it go,” is the caption of another post that Sania shared on January 8.
