TV’s longest-running primetime medical series ever, “Grey’s Anatomy,” will officially scrub in for its 20th season on March 14, 2024. The new episodes were delayed until mid-season due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes of 2023. Only three cast members from the first season in 2005 are still a part of the ABC drama in 2024: Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey (who will keep doing the weekly voice-overs even though she departed as a series regular last year), Chandra Wilson as Dr. Miranda Bailey, and James Pickens Jr. as Dr. Richard Webber.
Behind the scenes, Meg Marinis has taken over as showrunner from Krista Vernoff, who departed after Season 19. Marinis wrote the season premiere, which is directed by long-time recurring cast member Debbie Allen. Because of the late start, the 20th season will be the shortest since the first season with only 10 episodes total. And the five interns who joined in Season 19 will also be back in action: Alexis Floyd as Simone Griffith, Harry Shum Jr. as Benson “Blue” Kwan, Adelaide Kane as Jules Millin, Midori Francis as Mika Yasuda, and Niko Terho as Lucas Shepherd Adams.
