COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- From Jurassic Quest's animatronic dinosaurs at the Ohio Expo Center to the glass artwork of Dale Chihuly at Franklin Park Conservatory, here are things to see and do this weekend in central Ohio.
'The Color Purple'
Short North Stage opening on Thursday through Feb. 18
- Spotlight on Celie, a downtrodden young woman whose personal awakening over the course of 40 years forms the arc of this story. With a score featuring jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music and blues, "The Color Purple" is a story of hope, a testament to the healing power of love, and a celebration of life.
Blue Jackets vs. Devils
Nationwide Arena at 7 p.m. on Friday
- The Columbus Blue Jackets face the New Jersey Devils.
Jurassic Quest
Ohio Expo Center from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday
- From the largest predators to baby dinosaurs, each animatronic at the exhibit is displayed in realistic scenes. Jurassic Quest works in collaboration with paleontologists to ensure each dinosaur is replicated in every detail, from coloration and teeth size to textured skin, fur or feathers.
String trio 'Time for Three'
Ohio Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday
- Join the Columbus Symphony for a program featuring genre-defying string trio Time for Three. The group performs Kevin Puts’ "Contact," which was written for them and draws inspiration from themes of reaching out and connection.
Chihuly Night
Franklin Park Conservatory from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday
- Chihuly Nights allows guests to see the glass artwork of Dale Chihuly in an entirely new light. All eighteen installations are professionally lit to create breathtaking views within the setting of the botanical gardens.
Top winter concerts and events
- Winter is packed with central Ohio’s favorite events, including the return of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, a cappella group Pentatonix and “The Nutcracker,” along with “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” and “Company” at the Ohio Theatre.
