‘I think ‘cause I went to jail’: BoMac reacts to being named Trainer of the Year by multiple outlets

Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre credits the group of individuals he works closely with for the success of their 2023 campaign.

Trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre has a successful 2023 campaign, aside from his run in with the law overseas. And considering the run he put together last year, highlighted by Terence Crawford’s undisputed welterweight title win over Errol Spence, McIntyre talks to Fight Hype about being widely considered to be the 2023 Trainer of the Year.

BoMac on being recognized as Trainer of the Year

“I think ‘cause I went to jail. I think ‘cause I went to jail my name just — it was Crawford’s win, then Eubank’s win, then I goes to jail. If I wouldn’t have went to jail they would’ve been like ‘oh, that’s BoMac’ (dismissively). I really do think so. That’s just my opinion but we did have a good year.”

On if he thinks 2023 was his best year as a trainer

“No, I don’t think so. I just think that maybe the name popped a little bit more. It’s not BoMac, it’s the team, like B&B. All the guys that’s with B&B, they all doing good, everybody’s winning and they just say who’s training them? So I say B&B because it’s a group of trainers...I just think it’s a group effort to get trainer of the year.”

On how Keyshawn Davis is preparing for Jose Pedraza

“First and foremost, I know Keyshawn is just loving the opportunity so he can shine. Second, camp is going great. He’s working his ass off. He’s studying his craft...How I see the fight going, it’s going to be a little tough for Keyshawn to adapt to his style, and then once he adapt to that style he’s just going to run away with it. I’m looking for the stoppage. But we training for 12 rounds, we’re in shape to go 15.”
