My son’s face was ‘ripped off’ in horror dog attack at pub – there were no warning signs & pet still hasn’t been seized
A YOUNG boy had his face “ripped off” by a dog during a family trip to their local pub.
Kaelan Rockey, 5, was savagely attacked by a German Shepherd at The White Hart pub in Stoke-on-Trent on Christmas Eve.
He suffered 13 lacerations to his face and throat and had to be rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.
Kaelan’s mum, Charlene Rockey, told the Mirror that the animal still hasn’t been seized after she alerted police.
The 35-year-old said: “If it had been a Staffy or an XL Bully something would have been done that night.”
Charlene recalled how her parents and Kaelon went to their local pub around 7.15pm, and “20 seconds” later she heard her son screaming.
Kaelon had gone to pet the dog who was near the bar when it bit his face.
Charlene said: “It was a different type of scream so I knew he was hurt.”
As she dealt with her son’s injuries, a woman ran out to tell her what had happened.
An ambulance was then called, and they were blue-lighted to hospital.
Kaelon had to get his face and neck stitched up as he underwent an emergency surgery on Boxing Day.
While his physical wounds have begun to heal, Charlene says he hasn’t recovered mentally from the attack.
She said Kaelon has been left “absolutely petrified” of all animals and is suffering constant night terrors.
Charlene viewed horrific CCTV footage of the attack and couldn’t understand why the dog pounced on her son in the first place.
She said: “It’s an unprovoked attack, we don’t know why.”
Charlene claimed the police didn’t seize the dog on the night of the attack, and that it left her furious.
Staffordshire Police is reportedly interviewing a man on January 20 in connection with the incident.
Kaelon returned home the day after Boxing Day, where his Christmas presents were still waiting for him.
Charlene hopes that her son won’t associate Christmas with the attack, adding that his scars will eventually fade.
The White Hart pub says it has banned dogs from entering the pub.
