A reader chastises Gov. Ron DeSantis for rejecting billions in federal money, as the Sun Sentinel has reported.
Hard-working, honest Floridians faithfully send their fair share of federal tax dollars to the federal government with every paycheck. This is with the expectation that we in turn will receive our fair share of federal benefits in return.
Unfortunately, our heartless, moronic Gov. Ron DeSantis chooses to deny hard-working Floridians a fair return on their taxes. As stated in your Jan. 7 front page article by Jeffrey Schweers, DeSantis has denied the acceptance of $11 billion to Florida.
These precious funds would enable Florida to expand Medicaid to so many needy Floridians, offer rebates for energy-saving appliances and upgrades, create a program to reduce motor vehicle emissions, and provide summer lunches for children from low-income families.
How dare he? What kind of human being is he? What kind of leader would deny these funds for the people of his own state?

Letter writer Neal Bluestein of Boca Raton justifies Trump’s statement that he will be a dictator “only on day one” as “tongue-in-cheek.” That may be true.
However, in light of Trump’s own words, where he states that he will use his office as “retribution” against political opponents and shred parts of the Constitution, his reputed plans to staff federal agencies with loyalists, the legal findings of civil fraud, adjudication of sexual abuse, clear evidence of potential criminal acts at the state and federal levels and his admiration for dictatorial regimes, it seems more than plausible that he may not have been speaking tongue-in-cheek.
Bluestein seems to acknowledge this, stating that “Trump will be a brief and benevolent dictator.” A more oxymoronic statement on this subject is difficult to imagine. Dictatorial regimes may be brief, but they are never benevolent, and such a government should never be considered “normal” to Americans.

Thanks to letter writer Neal Bluestein for admitting the quiet part out loud: that Donald Trump will be a benevolent dictator. This is the No. 1 reason Trump should never be allowed near the presidency or any other lever of power. Willfully electing a dictator to the presidency is the most un-American thing a citizen can do. Removing power from the people and putting it in the hands of a leader is what American patriots have fought and died for since this country was founded. To elect a dictator is to dishonor their memories and sacrifices. As the saying goes, “When a leader can do no wrong, the people will have no rights.”

Regarding Chuck Lehmann’s recent letter, he asks why the Sun Sentinel doesn’t focus more on the Biden impeachment inquiry or the trials and tribulations of Hunter Biden. Your newspaper most certainly has had articles about Hunter Biden, including his apology, his admission of wrongdoing, etc. As for the distraction tactic of a House impeachment against President Joe Biden, they’re still trying to conjure up some vices and wrongdoing to quantify that, to no avail.
Lehmann refers to your newspaper as part of the “liberal media.” Your newspaper has always been fair, or it wouldn’t print so many pro-Trump letters, including the one from Lehmann. He’s angry that you have compared Trump to Hitler and claims your vitriol has brought sympathy to Trump. But Trump has talked of respect for current dictators.
Another letter writer, Neal Bluestein, writes that Trump will be a “brief and benevolent dictator” who will “begin to get this country back to normal on Day One.” Thank you, Sun Sentinel, for printing letters from all sides, which proves you are truly fair and balanced.
Sadly, certain outlets use that phrase while promulgating propaganda and falsehoods.
