Despite suffering from a hamstring strain that should have kept him out of action until at least the end of the month, Cristian Romero could be in line for a surprise return to action for the Manchester United game at the weekend.
After being named one of Ange Postecoglou‘s vice-captains this season, Cristian Romero has stepped up his game and, bar a reckless red card against Chelsea, has been a far more level-headed, reliable figure in the heart of defence this term.
Romero’s partnership with new signing Micky van de Ven was crucial to Tottenham’s bright start to the Premier League season, but the pair have not played together since the start of November in that disastrous clash with the Blues.
Just a week ago, Postecoglou had claimed Romero was at the start of his journey to recovery from the hamstring issue (Football.London).
However, the latest from The Athletic suggests Romero could be ready to return to the starting line-up far sooner than expected, with the game against Manchester United on Sunday earmarked as a possible comeback.
Apparently, the Argentine is “pushing to be involved” in the squad for the upcoming clash, with the player’s recovery progressing “quicker than expected.” Romero is said to be “feeling good” and is keen to return.
It remains to be seen, but Spurs could be handed the “boost” of having Micky van de Ven back from injury, new signing Radu Dragusin in the line-up, and Romero featuring in some capacity.
Spurs Web Opinion
Either Postecoglou is a compulsive liar when it comes to recovery times, or some of these Spurs players are genetically enhanced. First, Rodrigo Bentancur comes back from injury at least a month early, and now Romero is raring to go after just three weeks. You won’t catch me complaining, though.
