Saturday will mark the one-year anniversary of the death of Deputy Darnell Calhoun
A memorial service for Darnell Calhoun, a Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy who was shot and killed a year ago, is scheduled this weekend at the station where Calhoun worked.
The service will be held at the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station, located at 333 Limited Street, at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13.
Sheriff Chad Bianco is expected to speak, as well as deputies at the station who knew Calhoun. The fallen deputy’s family is also expected to be at the service.
The service will be open to the public.
Calhoun died on Jan. 13, 2023 after he responded to a domestic violence call in Lakeland Village. The department said that Calhoun was approaching a home when a suspect shot him.

His death was the second time in 16 days that a Riverside deputy was killed in the line of duty.
