‘Very rare & striking’ Ford Capri Turbo Technics undergoes £15,000 restoration & sells at auction for eye-watering price
A GORGEOUS Ford Capri described as “very rare and striking” has sold at an auction after a £15,000 restoration.
The iconic motor, which is a favourite among classic car collectors, comes with a fitted Turbo Technics upgrade and an eye-catching white bodykit.
The 80s classic fetched a cool £21,993 at a recent Car & Classic auction, having undergone a complete repaint and engine-out restoration.
According to the listing, the seller said: “Just had £15,000 on a complete repaint and engine-out restoration, simply stunning.
“We have taken this car back to a shell, removed everything and set about an epic restoration.”
One example of the level of detail put in includes “correcting the bonnet to make it perfect”, while a similar job was done for the doors – both taking three days to complete.
Despite being costly to restore, the seller admitted the Capri “needed saving and it is a wonderful example of what is an iconic 80s piece of engineering.”
This particular 1986 model comes with a range-topping 2.8 Injection with a fitted Turbo Technics upgrade – a conversion which was sanctioned by Ford and boosted the Capri’s power to 200bhp.
The fast Ford can reach 60mph in 6.5 seconds with a top speed of 143mph, and gained uprated brakes and suspension as well as a special ‘Kat’ bodykit to cope with the performance boost.
The cool look includes a deeper front spoiler, side-skirts and a ‘tea tray’ style rear spoiler all fitted from new.
It isn’t the only Capri that’s been up for sale recently, as an extremely rare and “well maintained” Capri Turbo that’s just one of 200 ever made has hit auction.
This particular motor was sold new in Switzerland and remained there until it was sold to a Danish petrolhead.
