Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita, one of the most decorated generals of the Indian Army and a great inspiration in Assam and the northeast, retired on Sunday after over four decades of service. Born in Assam's Tamulpur, he became the first Assamese Army officer to be appointed as a corps commander. Before commanding the Eastern Command, he served in various staff appointments. Lt Gen Kalita expressed gratitude to the almighty, his parents, teachers, superiors, and subordinates for their support. He looks forward to his second innings in Guwahati.
