Music legend reveals she’s retiring from touring after 50 years on the road saying she ‘has a rich a** life’ without it
ONE of the world’s most iconic music stars has revealed she is kissing goodbye to life on the road.
Singing legend Chaka Khan has confirmed her days of touring are well and truly over after 50 years of performing across the globe.
Chaka, 70, insists she has a “rich a** life” without the need to travel for long spells at a time so will be taking a step back.
But the great-grandmother is not retiring all together.
Instead, Chaka has told Rolling Stone she will just ensure her gigs are spread out so she can “sleep in between”.
Chaka said to the magazine: “I got this rich-a** life.
“I’ve got great grandchildren I want to get to know better.
“So I will not do another tour. I’ll do dates, but it won’t look like a tour.
“They’ll be far enough apart that I can have time to sleep in between.”
Chaka was asked if she will ever retire completely and she said she “might do that three or four times, like other b****es do”.
Last week, The Sun revealed that Chaka is battling it out with Shania Twain to headline Glastonbury 2024.
Both ladies are in advanced negotiations to be next year’s final act at the iconic festival.
A source said: “Talks have been ongoing for months and months with both Chaka and Shania.
“Organisers have left it far later than usual to nail down the festival’s three headliners and that has meant no decision has been made about who to choose for the Legend slot.
“But Chaka and Shania are top of the list, have each said they would be interested and are both keeping the date free. It would be an incredible honour for either of them — and the hits would please everyone.”
True to her word, Chaka will play series of shows in the UK next summer but there is enough space in between to “sleep”.
Notably, she has nothing planned for the Glasto weekend at the end of June.
Meanwhile, Canadian Shania will start her latest Las Vegas residency in May but has free space in her diary from the end of that month until mid-August.
Asked several months ago if she would be doing the Legend slot in Somerset, That Don’t Impress Me Much singer Shania told Bizarre: “I’m not aware of it yet but wouldn’t that be awesome? I’m not sure where we’re at with that yet.”
It comes after Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis said in October: “Certainly, I can say the legend is female.”
Her remark followed criticism over an all-male lineup of headliners this year.
