Worrying iPhone warning sign means you’re ruining your battery with big mistake – act fast to save it
WATCH out for a strange warning sign that you’re making a mistake with your iPhone.
It’s easy to spot when you know what to look for, and the clue is your battery life.
If your iPhone has stopped charging at 80%, it can mean something is wrong.
There are three reasons why your iPhone might stop charging at 80%.
The first is that you’ve got an iPhone 15 and you’ve manually turned on the 80% Limit.
This feature is designed to extend your battery’s lifespan.
The second is that you’ve got an iPhone running iOS 13 or later and Optimized Battery Charging is turned on.
This is designed to slow how quickly your battery ages.
It usually occurs when you’re charging at your normal time – this is often overnight.
The iPhone learns this routine and holds the charge at 80% until just before you need it, then takes it to 100%.
You can override this at any time by tapping the notification.
Heat warning
The third reason your iPhone may stop at 80% is because it’s too hot.
This is bad: exposing your iPhone to too much heat can shorten the battery’s lifespan.
While cold temperatures can temporarily affect battery life, regular overheating can have a permanent effect.
“iPhone is designed to perform well in a wide range of ambient temperatures, with 62° to 72° F (16° to 22° C) being the ideal comfort zone,” Apple explained.
“Avoid using or charging your device in ambient temperatures higher than 95° F (35° C), which can permanently reduce battery lifespan.
“Software might limit charging above 80 percent when the recommended battery temperatures are exceeded.”
Your iPhone will resume charging again once the temperature drops.
So make sure to you don’t damage your battery, make sure to move it somewhere cooler.
Try to keep your iPhone away from external heat sources – and in well-ventilated spaces.
This is especially important if your iPhone is charging.
You should never have it under a pillow or blanket while charging, as it could get dangerously hot – in addition to damaging your iPhone’s battery.
