Journalist does not expect highly-rated Spurs youngster to be handed a chance

Journalist Paul Brown does not expect Alfie Dorrington to be handed a first-team opportunity by Ange Postecoglou, despite the youngster having been in outstanding form for the Under-21s this season.

Dorrington has been one of Tottenham’s standout players in Premier League 2 this season, having started every single game in the competition and arguably even outperforming the highly-rated Ashley Phillips, who was signed from Blackburn Rovers in the summer.

The Tottenham academy graduate has also excelled for England’s Under-19s, with some journalists suggesting over the last couple of months that the teenager could be fast-tracked into the first team (Alasdair Gold – YouTube channel).

The centre-back has been spoken about in glowing terms by Postecoglou (Football.London) and has made the matchday squad on a few occasions over the last few months, as a result of Tottenham’s injury problems.

Is Alfie Dorrington a future Spurs first-teamer?

However, Dorrington is yet to make his senior bow and Jones believes that his debut might not be around the corner, claiming that others are still ahead of him in the pecking order.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Postecoglou has mentioned Dorrington several times, but other people are ahead of him. It has been good to see him on the bench, and I think that’s vital for young players to see a route into the team.

“A couple of younger guys might be one step closer than he is. But it is good to see him getting a look in, and I think Postecoglou knows that Spurs want to promote some youngsters if they can. So, I think it’s good that he’s been included.”

I do not think Ange Postecoglou will hand either Phillips or Dorrington their first-team debuts any time soon, with the Australian coach seeing both players as ones for the future.

I think Spurs would seriously consider loaning Dorrington out to an EFL club next season so that the youngster can get a taste of senior football, ideally at Championship level.
