First picture of boy, four, stabbed to death ‘by his mum’

Kobi Macharia Dooly died on Wednesday

A four-year-old boy who was stabbed to death at home in London has been pictured for the first time.

Kobi Macharia Dooly was rushed to hospital after he was attacked at an address in Hackney on Wednesday night but could not be saved.

His mother, Keziah Macharia, has been charged with the murder of her son.

The 41-year-old, of Montague Road, E8, appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

She has been remanded in custody and will next appear at the Old Bailey on Thursday, December 28.

A Met Police spokesman said: ‘An investigation was launched after police were called to an address in Montague Road, E8, at approximately 22:50hrs on Wednesday, 20 December following concerns for the welfare of a child.

‘Kobi was found suffering knife injuries; he was taken to hospital for treatment but subsequently died from his injuries.’

Members of the youngster’s family who live in Waterford in Ireland paid tribute to the ‘the joy and laughter’ he brought to the world.

They told the Irish Independent: ‘With heavy hearts we bid farewell to Kobi, you will be so dearly missed.

‘The joy and laughter you brought to the world has been taken from us far too soon. We will be thinking of you day and night for eternity till we meet you again.

‘The family would like to acknowledge and appreciate all messages of support. Please respect our family privacy at this very difficult time.’

Officers said a special post-mortem will take place after Christmas.

A neighbour said of Kobi: ‘We often saw the boy playing on his scooter. He was happy and energetic.’

Detective chief superintendent James Conway said previously: ‘This is an extremely distressing incident which will understandably cause shock and disbelief amongst the local community and those who attended the scene.

‘We are working with our partners, including Hackney Council and the school community, to ensure support is there for people who need it.’
