Trump's brags about his wealth in fraud trial may spell trouble for upcoming case: expert
Billionaire boasting in one civil court trial might send former President Donald Trump to the poorhouse in another, an MSNBC legal expert says.
Lawyers for E. Jean Carroll — the advice columnist Trump has been found liable of defaming — plan to introduce Trump's $250 million fraud trial testimony as evidence in their upcoming trial to assess damages the former president owes their client, Lisa Rubin told her X followers Thursday.
While it's possible that Trump considered his upcoming damages trial when he bragged earlier this year he was worth "hundreds of millions, if not billions more, than listed on his financial statements," Rubin doubts it.
The problem, she argues, is that Trump doesn't have one legal team overseeing his multiple criminal and civil case as well as the 2024 ballot challenges he faces in multiple states.

“There is no Trump legal team; there are multiple Trump legal teams,” Rubin writes. “Increasingly, their worlds are colliding in potentially problematic ways.”
As proof, Rubin points to a Thursday filing from Carroll's attorneys that notifies the court they'll be using Trump's testimony from New York Attorney General Letitia James' fraud case.
"Trump might have boasted about his wealth understanding it could hurt him in Carroll’s case and/or other civil suits where punitive damages are at issue," Rubin writes.
"But my suspicion is that no one is holistically monitoring what Trump says."
