According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the New York Mets have checked in on free agent starter Brandon Woodruff. Heyman name-dropped Woodruff in an article about where the Mets could shift their pitching focus if they lose out on Japanese righty Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Heyman notes that the Mets have also checked in on free agent starters Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, Lucas Giolito, and Shōta Imanaga.
Woodruff, 30, was non-tendered by the Milwaukee Brewers last month. The two-time All-Star underwent shoulder surgery in October and could miss the entire 2024 season.
Before the injury in 2023, Woodruff was fantastic with a 2.28 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and 4.93 K-BB ratio in 11 starts for the Brewers. He has a 3.10 career ERA in 130 games (115 starts) with the Brewers.
Obviously, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns is very familiar with Woodruff, given Brandon spent all eight of his big league seasons in the majors with the Brewers when Stearns was in the front office.
