Julianne Moore recently received her 10th career Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for “May December.”
Moore has maintained her status as a beloved A-list actor since the late 90s, after her roles in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1997 breakout film “Boogie Nights” and the Coen brothers’ 1998 sleeper hit “Big Lebowski.” Her red carpet style over the years could be described as playful, casual elegance. She’s never been afraid of bold colors or unique detailing or design with her dresses and footwear, and making her a joy to witness. Some of her favorite brands to wear include Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Bottega Veneta, Ralph Lauren, Saint Laurent and Jimmy Choo.
In anticipation of one of the first major red carpet award shows to kick off the new year (on Jan. 7), FN looks back at Julianne Moore’s Golden Globes shoes and outfits over the years.
The last time Julianne Moore walked the Golden Globes red carpet in 2019, she looked heavenly in all-white Givenchy. Styled by Leslie Fremar, she wore white satin pointed-toe Givenchy heels that peeked out from the netting of her custom Givenchy Haute Couture dress. The shoes perfectly matched the material of the halter top overlay part of the dress, along with the large bow and train skirt at the back.
At the 2015 Golden Globes, the “Magnolia” star shined brightly in head-to-toe glittery glam from Givenchy to take home her win for Best Actress in a Drama. Her heels were hidden underneath her stunning silver sequin ombre gown, which featured a mermaid-like skirt that sprouted black and gray marabou feathers intermixed with sequins around the knees. She wore her red hair down and wavy, along with a silvery smoky eye, diamond flower stud earrings, a statement diamond ring and bracelet on one side, and a square shiny maroon clutch on the other hand.
When Moore took home the award for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for “Game Change” at the 2013 Golden Globes, she paired her sleek black-and-white Tom Ford dress with intricate black heels. Her memorable footwear featured peep toes with a woven design and sculptural cut-outs that wrapped from the front of the foot to behind the ankle, elevated by approximately four-inch heels.
For the 2011 Golden Globes, “The Hours” actor wore a fun bright coral Lanvin puffy-one-shoulder dress that many fashion critics at the time were not fond of. She wore simple nude rounded-pointed-toe four-or-so-inch stilettos and her classic natural makeup to let the bold dress do the talking. The gown featured a built-in gold necklace that she coordinated with a gold shell clutch.
Moore walked the 2010 Golden Globes red carpet in style, wearing all-black alongside her designer and friend Tom Ford, who wore a sleek tux. The actor wore black gladiator heeled sandals with her strapless long Balenciaga shift dress. The frock featured tulle detailing at the top, and a low slit in the front to show off her footwear.
Back in 2003, the “Far from Heaven” actor opted for a classic black to walk the red carpet with then-soon-to-be-husband Bart Freundlich. Black heeled sandals peeked out from her floor-length black dress featuring mesh shoulders with small cut-outs. She wore her red hair back in a casual up-do with jade circular drop earrings, sparkly wrap bracelets and a long, sleek black clutch.
At the 2001 Golden Globes, Moore channeled classic Hollywood glamour in a look that would still resonate if worn today. She paired black heeled sandals with a white crepe halter dress that ended in a fluff of ruffles at the ground. She topped this with a black mesh wrap with marabou feather trim and her famously red locks long and straight.
For her first Golden Globes red carpet, in 1998, Moore channeled dark Hollywood goth glam in all-black satin. She wore open-toed black shoes with a floor-length fitted gown featuring a deep neckline with cut-out detailing. A true queen of casual chic, she wore the matching jacket around her forearms. A deep red lip, slightly messy up-do, diamond tennis necklace and diamond drop earrings completed the iconic ’90s look.
