India plans to implement satellite-based tolling systems on national highways by March 2024, according to Nitin Gadkari, the Minister for Road Transport and Highways. The introduction of FASTag has already reduced waiting times at toll plazas. However, the allocation of new construction projects for national highways has decreased by 52 per cent this fiscal year, posing a challenge to achieving the government's target of constructing and expanding 12,000 km of highways.
