Kaiser Permanente's $365,000 infusion affords 540,000 meals for hungry East Bay residents during the holidays.
Volunteers sorted and packaged meals Tuesday at the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano counties as the organization navigates an estimated 20 percent increased demand for assistance during the holidays.
Their work is funded in part by $365,000 health care provider Kaiser Permanente gave the nonprofit to provide 540,000 meals as the food bank launches its annual 3 Million Meals challenge.
“Through community partnerships, including the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano,” the health care provider wrote in a release, “Kaiser Permanente is addressing the health and well-being of the communities we serve by increasing access to nutritious food and fighting food insecurity.”
