BISCUIT fans have had mixed reviews over a re-released McVities treat – with some slamming it as “disappointing”.
But others were devastated to find the bicky had already raced off the shelves as it returned with a new recipe after being discontinued almost 20 years ago.
McVities white chocolate digestive was first released as a limited edition sweet back in 2005.
Then, earlier this year a new version of it came out again – with Brits rushing to get their hands on one.
The biscuit has the classic digestive base and is covered with a layer of white chocolate – and costs less than £2 for 15.
On tonight’s episode of Channel 4‘s Inside McVities at Christmas, the bicky brand opened up about getting the digestives into stores.
It was revealed they had staff analysing Brits’ reactions on social media – which proved polarising.
Some people weren’t fans – including one woman who said the chocolate-to-biscuit ratio was well off.
She said in a TikTok video: “That’s so disappointing.
“I’m literally getting the tiniest bit of white chocolate, all I’m tasting is digestive.”
One man added that the biscuit wasn’t the “strongest of flavours” – before going on to say it doesn’t compare to milk chocolate or dark chocolate.
But others found love at first bite.
One fan said: “Well it looks nice – and by jobe it tastes nice.
“I will give these a nine out of 10 – and I give nothing a 10.”
Another woman went on to say: “First off without a dippy and these were amazing.
“Then obviously I had to have a little dippy in my tea and they were even better.”
But, the popularity saw bicky lovers struggling to find the newly released treat.
One woman filmed the empty shelves as she arrives at them and said: “Oh no, they’re all gone.”
Meanwhile, another wrote on social media: “Why are there no white chocolate digestives?”
When the biscuit was released earlier the year, Aslı Özen Turhan, chief marketing officer at Pladis UK&I, which owns McVities, said: “Our customers have been asking for white chocolate digestives for a while and we’re excited to finally bring them to the shelves.
“Knowing how much people love white chocolate and having new sweet treats to try, we couldn’t wait to make this highly anticipated addition to the digestives family.”
