A former congressional candidate from Mississippi was charged with criminal mischief on Thursday for destroying a Satanic Temple of Iowa display at the state capitol, the Des Moines Register reported. The display is legal under Iowa law. But defendant Michael Cassidy thinks his religion trumps the law. “My conscience is held captive to the word of God, not to bureaucratic decree," he reportedly said.
Iowa’s conservative governor, Kim Reynolds, who has endorsed DeSantis, defended the law. “In a free society, the best response to objectionable speech is more speech,” she said.
But DeSantis is on the side of the law breaker, Christian fascism and against the First Amendment guarantee of freedom of religion. He even claimed his stance is pro-American:
