We put lash primers from all budgets to the test – one of them was a disappointment
WANT the look of false lashes this season, but don’t have the patience to apply them? A lash primer might just be the answer to your prayers.
This week, I put three to the test . . .
Budget
Morphe The Big Prime lash primer, (£10 for 10ml, sephora.co.uk):
This is the biggest tube of the three and by far the best value for money.
The bright blue shade was slightly terrifying at first, but once you put mascara on top you can’t see it – although if you accidentally get it on your face it can be hard to get off without causing a mess.
I think it makes my mascara look even darker. It definitely separates my lashes for a fanned-out false lash effect, but I’m not convinced it makes them look much thicker or longer.
It takes quite a while to dry before you can apply mascara.
Mid-range
Blinc black lash primer, (£17.85 for 5ml, blincinc.co.uk): Blinc pioneered tubing technology – polymers that wrap around each lash – to bring us mascara that doesn’t smudge, but comes off with water. So they know about lashes.
I had high hopes for this primer, and I loved the slightly curved brush – it grabs hold of lashes but isn’t too big or oddly shaped that you end up hitting your nose or eyelid while applying.
I also really like that the formula is black, as many lash primers are white, which can dilute the shade of your mascara and lessen the impact.
Sadly, while it made my lashes look thicker, it weighed them down so they were super straight and actually appeared shorter than normal.
Luxury
Too Faced Better Than Sex Foreplay lash lifting and thickening mascara primer, (£27 for 8ml, lookfantastic.com): This really lifts your lashes, so if you struggle to get a curl to hold, or want your eyes to look more open and awake this is a no-brainer.
For me, the results almost match a lash lift. But it doesn’t provide loads of volume, so it’s best for people who already have dense lashes, or paired with a volumising mascara.
And it does not budge – which is brilliant if you’re prone to panda eyes, but also makes it a pain to remove. Hands down my fave.
