A 37-year-old man on a scooter was killed during a crash in Bridgeport Thursday night.
A man driving a scooter was struck and killed during a crash in Bridgeport late Thursday.
The crash was reported at the intersection of Housatonic Avenue and Wells Street where first responders found a 37-year-old man lying face down on the ground, according to the Bridgeport Police Department.
The victim, a Stratford resident who has not been identified, was unresponsive and was tended to by members of the Bridgeport Fire Department before medics arrived. The man was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 10:57 p.m., police said.
According to police, a preliminary investigation conducted by patrol officers and the Bridgeport Serious Crash Team showed that a 2022 Toyota Camry with New York registration plates was heading north on Housatonic Avenue when the 44-year-old driver attempted to turn left onto Wells Street. As he did, he collided with an Italica Motor Scooter RX 150, which was being driven south on Housatonic Avenue by the 37-year-old who later died, police said.
Police said the man’s next of kin has been notified.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, loved ones, and everyone affected by this tragic incident,” Bridgeport police Capt. Lonnie Blackwell said in a statement Friday.
