A town centre was plunged into chaos after a huge reel of wire fell off a lorry and smashed into several cars.
Police rushed to the scene in Bodmin in Cornwall as the carnage unfolded just before 9am on Friday.
One witness said the incident happened on Fore Street in the middle of the town and involved a massive wire reel coming free from the trailer of the lorry that was delivering it.
Posting on X, they said: ‘Its all happening on Fore Street this morning, massive drum of armoured cable has broken loose from its trailer, rolled down the street and smashed into two cars!’
They shared photos showing how the enormous reel had crashed into cars.
A number of people were seen standing around at the scene with one man reaching out towards the wire.
The lorry is also pictured parked up at the side of the road – but without the reel of wire on it.
Another photo shows the giant reel being recovered as it was lifted onto a lorry by a crane.
Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police have since confirmed that no-one was injured and the road didn’t stay blocked during the rush hour.
A police spokesman said: ‘It’s a report of a large reel of wire having come off the back of one vehicle and collided with another. There are no injuries and the road isn’t blocked.’
Other strange news recently saw one woman claim to have found the Iron Lady on an ironing board.
Karen Schmit, 63, claimed she found the face of Margaret Thatcher seared into her ironing board – but we’re not convinced.
The mum, from Norwich, said she hadn’t noticed the resemblance to the ‘Iron Lady’ when she posted the board for sale on Facebook, but commenters were quick to notice the similarity.
Part-time teaching assistant Karen said she had initially hoped to fetch £5 for the household staple, but now plans to keep it.
The now viral ironing board belonged to her late mum – who would have ‘loved’ Thatcher’s face ‘appearing’ on it, she said.
Karen explained: ‘I was clearing stuff out. I don’t like anything to go to waste. Then people said they could see a face in it.
‘One person said the Queen – then the Thatcher comments started coming through. People said it was the Iron Lady!’
