India's Railways Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, stated that India could save Rs 1.28 lakh crore annually in diesel costs by 2031 if it successfully transports an additional 1,500 million tonnes of cargo via trains. He highlighted that another 3,000 million tonnes of additional cargo is expected to move in the country by 2031 at the current economic growth rate.
