An 81-year-old South Windsor man faces charges after police say he was negligent when he accidently shot someone while hunting last month.
A South Windsor man was charged Wednesday for a hunting incident last month when police say he accidentally shot someone who ended up with a pellet lodged in his temple.
James L. Dina, 81, turned himself in on charges of second-degree negligent hunting and interfering with an officer, according to the South Windsor Police Department.
Police said the charges stem from an incident on Nov. 17 when Dina “negligently shot another hunter” and then lied about it to police during their investigation. According to police, he hid his musket and purposely miscounted the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
The victim suffered injuries to his elbow and had a pellet lodged in his temple. He was taken to an area hospital where he was evaluated and released, police said.
Dina was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond following his arrest and is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on Dec. 27.
