Love Island couple accused of ‘getting engaged for Instagram likes’ as they celebrate proposal on luxury holiday
LOVE Island couple Lucie Donlan and Luke Mabbott have come under fire after celebrating two years of being engaged.
The reality TV pair got engaged in 2021 whilst they escaped the UK for a luxury snowy winter getaway .
Luke, 27, took to instagram for a shared post as he celebrated their two-year milestone with a throwback video.
The former Love Island star shared a sweet throwback montage clip as they partook in a variety of cosy and romantic winter activities in Finland.
His post caption read: “2 year’s engaged.. .”
However, some fans took issue with the post as they thought the engagement has lasted a long time.
A wedding date has not yet been revealed and some users have become suspicious after multiple years.
One user commented: “I’ve always said that an engagement isn’t real unless they’ve set a date for a wedding.
They continued: “Otherwise, it’s just like my plan to be a millionaire: it’s it’s vague goal without any realistic “when” or “how”.”
Another stated: “Not to say….but after 2 years it’s probably time to get married .”
And a third fan echoed: “I agree, 2 years is whatever but 3 years is a long running joke in the Office. And it’s funny because it’s a ridiculously long time to be engaged and everyone knows it.
They added: “Getting engaged these days is for the posting it and getting likes, more than what it actually represents… marriage.”
The pair announced their engagement in December 2021, 17 months after they made their romance official.
They revealed the news with a post on Instagram which also included details of Luke’s romantic proposal.
In a sweet photo, both stars wee wrapped up in matching winter coats, as they shared a kiss whilst Lucie flashed her ring.
Both the pair closed their eyes as they took in the moment, but they are shared visible smiles through the smooch, with the stunning Northern Lights visible behind them.
In the shared post on Instagram, they captioned the snap: “Mrs Mabbott to be… The northern lights made an appearance for the perfect moment to pop the question.
“A night we will never forget..”
