NETFLIX horror fans were left impressed and petrified after watching Bartosz Kowalski’s spine-chilling hidden gem Hellhole.
The streamers’ viewers have dubbed the 2022 horror film, which only recently hit the platform, ‘the most essential horror-mystery of the year’.

Marek is burdened with infiltrating a remote monastery to investigate some mysterious disappearances, but not long after, a dark realisation about the local clergymen comes to light.
Set in 1987, Poland, the film Bartosz directed and Mirella Zaradkiewicz helped write is gaining a lot of attention on social media.
Netflix subscribers who watched the 2022 film took to X (Twitter) to express how the film had left them scarred as one user typed: “When the credits came up on this, I involuntarily uttered ‘wow.”
Another added: “It’s been over two weeks since I’ve watched Hellhole on Netflix, and it’s stuck in my brain!”
A third followed: “Hellhole on Netflix. Oh my. Oh. My.”
Other fans of the movie were so impressed they took to the social media platform to recommend it to their fellow horror lovers, with one stating: “I watched Hellhole. I can say that for Netflix, it’s a strong 10/10, it’s not chaotic but slowly builds an atmosphere of fear.
“It’s equal to Asian movies, without spoilers, it’s almost impossible to talk about this movie.
Another user wrote: “A cop infiltrates a sanatorium run by monks to investigate missing women.
“Atmospheric and full of dread, it’s a MUST see (I recommend viewing in original Polish with subtitles)”.
A third chimed: “The LOOK of this Polish horror (Hellhole on Netflix) is astonishing, painterly, somehow manages to suffuse dread and disgust into every single unremitting frame. Amazing music as well.”
Another person praised the director Kowalski’s work by saying: “The Polish film Hellhole on @netflix is the most essential horror-mystery of the year.
“90 minutes long and changing lives. Bartosz Kowalski is one to watch.”
Hellhole was initially released in 2020, but its dark themes, graphic scenes and quick runtime of 88 minutes have helped to make it a hit on Netflix and gain attraction.
As it stands, the film has a 57 per cent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and is rated 5.8 out of 10 on IMDb.
However, fans of the movie will be delighted to know that the filmmaker has directed two other, equally panned, scary flicks called Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight, which was also unreleased in 2020 and its 2021 sequel.
