A GYPSY woman has opened up about why women in the community aren’t very chatty to strangers.
Suzy, from the UK, revealed the rules for gypsy men and women were quite different which often effects their social circle.
Suzy revealed there was a good reason why traveller women don’t mingle with others[/caption] But it’s a different story for traveller men[/caption]Taking to social media, the mum of one answered a question left for her which read: “We have traveller neighbours (they’re awesome), I really want to get to know the wives but they’re very un-receptive.”
Suzy, who regularly opens up about her community and ways of life said there was a couple of reasons traveller women don’t mix with people outside of their community.
She began: “I’m gonna talk about this for a second because I feel like some people sometimes feel like, um, traveller women are very, very ignorant.
“Cause obviously a lot of them don’t really talk to like, women from the outside. Especially if you have like, neighbours or whatever.”
She added this is often common at the school gates as well.
Suzy went on to explain this was usually because traveller women are brought up with strict rules and won’t mix with others outside of the community unlike men do.
“It’s just because travelling women have a lot more rules than travelling men, so they’ve been brought up a little bit more stricter,” she explained.
“So they don’t really, they don’t really mix outside like the men do.”
On top of that, Suzy revealed they are often in their own bubble but will smile if they spot someone they recognise.
She added that it was the ‘fake travellers‘ you should watch out for who are usually rude.
“I always find that it’s the wannabe gypsy women, that tend to not speak as much or just blatantly ignore you or look you up and down like you’re rubbish,” she added.
“And I think it’s because they’re trying to be something that they’re not.
“And obviously, we can tell.”
The clip posted to her TikTok account @cuzinsuzy92 went viral with over 60k views and 3,000 likes.
People were quick to take to the comments with their thoughts on Suzy’s explanation.
One person wrote: “This explains so much I’ve lived next door to travellers for 3 years and the woman has not spoken to me.”
Another commented: “So true.”
“I had some neighbours who were travellers, the men were more chatty than the women but all of them overall were just really nice. They helped me out a lot,” penned a third.
Someone else added: “My mum is very much like this.”
