Police have charged a Hartford man in a fatal shooting in Ansonia over the summer.
Sahvone Valentine, 20, was arrested Tuesday on charges tied to the July 14 death of 30-year-old Abdul-Jalil Humphrey, according to the Ansonia Police Department.
Valentine faces charges of felony murder, murder, first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, criminal possession of firearm and theft of firearm, police said. He was arraigned on the murder charges Tuesday in Derby Superior Court where a judge set bail at $2 million. The 20-year-old had been held in custody since his arrest in Middletown days after the shooting on larceny and other charges, according to Judicial Branch records.
Valentine is the second person to be charged in connection with Humphrey’s death. On Nov. 3, Ansonia police arrested Jada Artis, 18, of Ansonia on charges of felony murder, first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery and hindering prosecution.
Ansonia police allege that Artis was involved in the shooting, but they believe Valentine was the one who shot and killed Humphrey. Police found Humphrey suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the driveway of 124 Hodge Ave. after responding to the area upon receiving multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired and a person being shot.
Humphrey was taken to Griffin Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
At the time of the shooting, police said they were looking for two vehicles that were tied to the incident, including Humphrey’s Hyundai Elantra which was stolen from the scene. The other was a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu Premier that police believe the shooter was driving just before the incident. Investigators at the time said they believed at least one other person was in the vehicle and drove it away following the homicide.
Artis’ case is pending in the Ansonia-Milford Judicial District Courthouse, where she is scheduled to appear Friday. She remains held on $2 million and has not entered a plea.
