4NCL (Nations Chess League)
Tues 12th Dec 23 – 7:30pm
Season 8 – Play-Offs – Semi-Finals
Time-Controls – 45 minutes + 15 seconds increments
Dundee City teams is a joint venture between Castlehill Chess Club Dundee and Dundee Chess Club.
They think it`s all over, it is now! All 3 Dundee City teams went out at the semi-final stage after a fantastic season 8 campaign which saw 3 teams get promoted (TBC)! It was a hard night`s chess, and everybody gave it their all, including two players from their sick beds!
RESULTS
Division Two
Dundee City C (1875) 1½ – 2½ (1657) East Kilbride A
The battle of Scotland went to East Kilbride A, who deserved the victory on their performance. Their grading is nowhere near their true ability which they have showed in every round of season 8! Dundee City congratulate them and wish them all the best in the final.
Come on Scotland!
Division Three
Heffalump Hunters (1943) 3 – 1 (1723) Dundee City D
This was always going to be an uphill struggle against a very strong side. All credit to our players, especially Johua Crofts & Ross Brennan, with both getting two very good draws. I think the Heffalumps are destained for greater things!
Division Four
Dundee City E (1615) 1 – 3 (1703) Beckenham
After a late reshuffle of the board order, the match went to the form book with a strong Beckenham proving too much for Dundee City E! Like the “D” team, Dundee City players, Leyton Hackney & Trevor Harley got two very good draws on the night!
That ends season 8, but what a season for Dundee City teams. Dundee City A just missed out on defending their division one title, but Dundee City B, managed to stay in division one! Joining both A & B teams, is Dundee City C, making it 3 Dundee City teams in division one! They should also be joined by another Scottish side, East Kilbride A!
Not too shabby at all!
Dundee City D also got promoted to division 2, and Dundee City E are promoted to division 3. Outstanding performance by both teams (Still to be confirmed)!
Dundee City F, could not escape relegation to division 5, joining Dundee City G & H teams.
With 8 teams, it was at times a nail-biting experience as an organiser, but Dundee City are always came up trumps, thanks to it`s captains & players! It has been a pleasure working with all the captains and our players in season 8 and I thank you all for your support, because without that, Dundee City would not be as successful as we have been!
I look forward to your continued support for season 9 starting in January 24. with an even more successful campaign!
