The citizens' joy of having major thoroughfares concreted in Mangaluru has been short-lived. The concrete roads, which were thought to provide permanent relief, have proven to be no better than asphalted roads. The authorities failed to relocate utilities or create ducts for future utilities before laying the concrete, resulting in the need to repeatedly cut the rigid pavement. This has caused chaos and erratic traffic as two lanes have been converted to single lanes. The lack of coordination between the municipal corporation and other agencies responsible for laying cables or utilities has led to this situation.
