‘I didn’t even look at it’ – Arsenal legend reveals Spurs tried to sign him at the end of his career

Arsenal legend Martin Keown reveals that Tottenham Hotspur made an offer to sign him at the end of his career but he did not even take a look at it.

Considering the fact he spent much of his career at Arsenal, one can imagine what Keown thought of Tottenham. But he reveals that Spurs made a cheeky offer to sign him towards the end of his career.

Understandably, Keown says he did not even take a look at the offer as there was no way he would ever consider joining Spurs. He felt that he had given everything to Arsenal and that there was nothing left in him once he left North London.

The 57-year-old centre-back is an Arsenal legend in every right and has made 433 appearances for the Gunners in his career (Transfermarkt). He also won three Premier League titles with the North London club.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Martin Keown reveals that no amount of money would have convinced him to join Spurs. When asked what he would have done if he had been offered £400 million and a three-year contract, here is what the Gunners legend had to say:

“No. I wouldn’t have gone to Tottenham. I was being offered the chance to go to Tottenham at the end of my career, and I didn’t even look at it. I did not want to know! Money is not going to buy me everything in my life.

“So no, I wouldn’t have taken it. And you’re asking a pathetic question, I’m not going to Tottenham! I was finished anyway. I gave everything for Arsenal Football Club and at the end of my career there, I was done.”

I don’t understand why Spurs made an offer to Keown at the fag end of his career. It might have been the club’s way of getting back at Arsenal by signing a former player of theirs.

It is no surprise that the 57-year-old feels this way about Spurs. Any Spurs player passionate about the club would feel the same way about joining Arsenal. There is no point reading too much into his comments.
