Former House and White House staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin revealed that Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is "peeeee-tyyyy," she said, stretching out the word on Thursday.
The co-host of "The View"
Sunny Hostin said that she was listening to former Rep. Liz Cheney's (R-WY) book in which McCarthy would speak out of both sides of his mouth, telling her one thing and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) another.
"So, he's a liar. But my question is for you, Alyssa, like I just wonder, I know that Gavin Newsom now has the ability to call the special election. He can call it in early 2024, but he doesn't necessarily have to do that, right?" Hostin asked.
Griffin said Newsome will call for an election next year. Indeed he's indicated it will follow the existing 2024 calendar.
"Even so, Kevin McCarthy is pet-ty," she said. "He wants to make Mike Johnson's life harder. So, by him stepping down, that gives him only two votes to get anything by because he wants people to miss him. He wants them to be, like, yes, it was better under Kevin."
She went on to ask the co-hosts to picture an alternate universe.
"Kevin McCarthy actually stays by what he said after Jan. 6th. 'I'm done with Trump,'" she said, citing McCarthy. "He never goes to Mar-a-Lago and panhandles. The GOP moves on. We don't dabble in election denialism. We would end up having a red wave and he would be a popular speaker and we would be serving the American public. None of that happened and here we are."
Joy Behar thinks McCarthy "groveled to the losers."
But Sara Haines said McCarthy was "ousting himself" as a mechanism for giving "the biggest middle finger to the Republicans."
