CT caregiver charged with billing Medicaid for almost $15K while client was in prison and in hospital

A Stamford woman who worked as a personal caregiver is charged with defrauding Medicaid of nearly $15,000 while her client was in prison and in the hospital, officials said.

Latasia Robertson, 30, was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of first-degree larceny by defrauding a public community and one count of health insurance fraud, according to the Division of Criminal Justice.

Robertson was working as personal support service staff, helping clients with their day-to-day needs with help in their homes and communities when, between August 2021 and March 2022, she allegedly submitted false claims, the DCJ said.

Robertson allegedly submitted “false, incomplete, deceptive or misleading” information on her claims for a client who was incarcerated and receiving inpatient hospital care, according to the DCJ.

As a result, officials said, she received about $14,965 in Medicaid payments she was not entitled to.

Her work was being done under the Individual and Family Support Waiver through the Department of Development Services, which is overseen by the Department of Social Services. Her case will be prosecuted by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, the DCJ said.

Robertson was released on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in Stamford on Dec. 13. She faces up to 20 years in prison for each charge, according to the DCJ.
