I was on Squid Game: The Challenge – I kicked off when things got ‘ugly’ but Netflix bosses cut it from the show
A CONTESTANT who appeared on Squid Game has revealed the moment she ‘kicked off’ was axed from the show.
The hugely popular series dropped on Netflix last month and quickly became the most streamed show in the UK.
And now one contestant has revealed some ‘ugly’ scenes were cut by bosses in the final edit.
Amanda Taylor, who was known as 019, was one of the hundreds that took part in a series of games for a cash prize of $4.56million (£3.61million).
After each challenge the contestants would have to vote each other out, which became messy.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Amanda explained: “Those felt very personal and a lot more scary than the main challenges.
“The mood just dropped. We knew they would have to catch us off guard in some way. It got hard because it kind of became them against us in some ways. There were times I knew it would get ugly.”
The Liverpool native continued: “Everyone came up with this idea that the lowest numbers would vote first.
“Because I was so low I said, ‘Hold on a minute, I’m not happy with this.’ I kicked off.
“Also when TJ put himself forward as a leader. I thought ‘Hang on, I love TJ, he’s a really inspiring person but he’s too quick to make decisions. Loads of moments like that never got shown.”
While Squid Game might have been edited down for each episode, Amanda confirmed contestants were constantly switched on with no downtime.
She added: “There were no off-screen moments where we spoke to staff unless it was to fix our mics.
“We really were living in the Squid Game and we were there for around two weeks.
“So there’s so much you guys missed out on, especially a lot of bickering and debates.”
