MEGHAN Markle once bought Prince Harry a rather unusual Christmas present… an ornament of Queen Elizabeth II for their tree.
The Duke of Sussex made the revelation in his bombshell memoir Spare, and revealed the ornament met a sad fate at the hands of their son Archie, who was 18 months at the time.
Writing in his book, Prince Harry said he had received the comical gift for Christmas in 2020.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had decided to open presents on Christmas Eve which was “keeping to the Windsor family tradition.”
He wrote: “One present was a little Christmas ornament of…the Queen!”
Harry said he saw the funny side of the gift, and added: “I roared. What the—?
“Meg had spotted it in a local store and thought I might like it.
“I held it to the light. It was Granny’s face to a T.
“I hung it on an eye level branch. It made me happy to see her there.
“It made Meg and me smile.”
However, the ornament didn’t last long in the family’s £12million Californian mansion.
Harry explained: “But then Archie, playing around the tree, jostled the stand, shook the tree, and Granny fell.
“I heard a smash and turned. Pieces lay all over the floor.
“Archie ran and grabbed a spray bottle.
“For some reason he thought spraying water on the broken pieces would fix it.
Meg said: “No, Archie, no—do not spray Gan-Gan!”
“I grabbed a dustpan and swept up the pieces, all the while thinking: ‘This is weird,’” Harry continued.
Harry also revealed how that year they’d taken their son to find a Christmas tree in a local car park in Santa Barbara, where they now live after relocating from Britain.
He wrote: “We bought one of the biggest spruces they had. We brought it home, set it up in the living room. Magnificent.
“We stood back, admiring, counting our blessings. New home. Healthy boy.”
He added that they’d spent their Christmas Eve FaceTiming friends “including a few in Britain” and watching “Archie running around the tree.”
This comes as Harry and Meghan “would love to” spend Christmas in the UK but “haven’t been invited” by King Charles, a pal has claimed.
The couple last spent Christmas with the royal family at Sandringham in 2018 before their acrimonious move to the US.
But now a friend says that the couple want to see more of Charles – who has never spent a Christmas with their children Archie and Lilibet.
The friend told The Sunday Times: “I can’t imagine the Sussexes would decline an invitation to spend time with His Majesty.
“As of yet, there have not been any invitations for the holidays.”
Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
