WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari participated in the opening ceremony of the new Taipei City Dome.
The indoor facility will host the XXX BFA Asian Championship, a qualifying event for the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup 2024, with a 17,000-seat capacity.
Legendary World Home Run King Sadaharu Oh threw a ceremonial first pitch while BFA President Jeffrey Koo Jr. acted as his catcher.
The Taipei Dome broke ground in 2012, but construction work was put on hold in 2015 and resumed five years later. The facility was finally completed in 2023 and was finally approved in November. The open-door test event welcomed 13,000 spectators.
The final capacity of the Taipei Dome is expected to be 40,000. Taipei City intends to increase its capacity gradually.
