According to The Sunday Mirror – 26/11, page 70, Tottenham Hotspur are now eyeing a move for Sao Paulo starlet Lucas Beraldo.
Beraldo is enjoying a breakthrough season in Brazil, having emerged as one of the country’s best young defenders over the calendar year.
The 20-year-old could soon be in line for a call up the Selecao set-up, and The Mirror have now claimed that it is only a matter of time before he makes the switch to Europe.
The outlet states that a number of Premier League sides, including Spurs, are tracking the left-footed centre-back ahead of the January transfer window.
The publication reveals that the likes of Newcastle United, Chelsea and Manchester United also hold an interest in Beraldo, who is alleged to be valued at £20m.
This is not the first time the Sao Paulo star is being linked with a move to the Premier League, with journalist Graeme Bailey telling the Talking Transfers podcast last month that the young defender is on Liverpool’s radar.
Spurs Web Opinion
If Tottenham are interested in Beraldo, they likely view him as one for the future (like the Veliz and Phillips signings in the summer) rather than as a player who would immediately strengthen the first team. So Spurs’ pursuit of the Brazilian starlet should not affect their efforts to sign a senior centre-back in January such as Llyod Kelly.
