Omid Scobie’s new royal biography, Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, is receiving its share of publicity this week, especially after the Dutch edition of the book seemed to out the perpetrators of the Prince Archie skin color conversation before his birth. It’s the type of controversy that is probably great for book sales, but lousy for the royal family.
This week, the public was made aware that King Charles III might have been one of the senior royals who had that uncomfortable conversation with Meghan Markle while she was pregnant, per the Dutch book error. Scobie has pushed back on those claims to RTL Boulevard, a Dutch TV show, noting (via The Washington Post), “There’s never been a version that I’ve produced that has names in it. “Unfortunately I can’t speak Dutch, so I haven’t seen the copy for myself, so if there have been any translation errors, I’m sure the publisher’s got it under control.”
The rumors then started to float out there that there was a second offender in the family, but they were never disclosed who the “royal racist” might be. So, controversial TV personality Piers Morgan, who is Meghan archenemy and besties with Queen Camilla, decided to spill the beans himself. He claimed on his Piers Morgan Uncensored show, “The royals who are named in this book are King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales.” That’s quite the bombshell considering that it’s never been confirmed the Dutch translation revealed the name of the second person — and what a royal headache for the palace.
A source for the Mirror said that the entire royal family is “utterly dismayed” about the revelations. They are reportedly “considering all options” which means they might take legal action, but it’s not clear whether that would be against Morgan, Scobie, or the book publishers — or all three of them. What it does spell out is another chaotic issue for King Charles to address because at this point, the silent PR strategy is no longer working.
