ONE of the creators of a well-loved BBC programme has teased fans with an update about an upcoming special Christmas episode.
The show, Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, which has been a huge success, concluded its sixth season this year.
BBC’s Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing will be getting a Christmas special[/caption] Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing Christmas Special was announced by one of the editors of the show[/caption]Dough Bryson, an editor of the BBC fishing series, has announced that the Christmas episode of the show is in the editing process, which means it’s nearly ready.
The special hour-long festive episode will air during the holidays.
Bob Mortimer, Paul Whitehouse, and Ted, the dog, will travel to Scotland for Christmas fishing and to taste the traditional Hogmanay celebrations.
Dough took to X(Twitter) and announced the news by posting a snap of a computer screen with an editing program with images of the upcoming show displayed on the screen.
He captioned the picture: “It’ll soon be time for some #GoneFishing Hogmanay fun… Yes, it’s an hour long and yes, Ted’s in it.
Diehard viewers of the BBC Two show quickly responded to the post to express their excitement as one said: “Just finished rewatching all 6 seasons Bob was very potty-mouthed in season but saving the Christmas specials til nearer the time and then ready for this.”
The editor replied to the user: “Ah yes, series 1 went out at 10pm, so they were allowed to use some ripe language! Much better behaved these days… or at least I make them appear so!”
Another user wrote: “ Our Christmas prayers are answered.”
A third penned: “An hour episode! YAY! Wish every episode was an hour long! 30 mins goes by so quick!”
A fourth followed: “Highlight of the Xmas and New year TV again then.”
A third typed: “Can’t wait. I love this programme.”
Regular instalments of the show only last 30 minutes, so this will come as a nice Christmas treat.
Earlier this year, BBC commissioning editor Max Gogarty confirmed: “We are delighted Gone Fishing will be coming back later this year for a sixth series and then a bumper seventh in 2024.”
Season 6 included the pair overnight camping on the shores of a carp lake and visiting the oldest pub in the UK.
Paul, Bob and Ted were also seen casting their lines in Wales, Shropshire, Wiltshire, the Scottish Borders, Driffield Beck in Yorkshire and Burgh Island off the Devon coast.
The BBC has yet to confirm the air date of the Christmas special.
